Editorial Standards

Mission

We report facts with clarity and context. Our north star: facts first, spin last.

Accuracy & Verification

  • We confirm information with documents, data, and on-the-record sources whenever possible.

  • Anonymous sources are used only when (1) information is essential to the public interest, (2) the source risks harm or retaliation, and (3) editors know the source’s identity and credibility.

  • We seek documentary evidence (contracts, budgets, emails, court filings, public records) to support claims.

Right of Reply

  • Individuals or institutions named in a Report are offered a meaningful opportunity to respond prior to publication (standard window: 24–48 hours, shorter for breaking items).

  • Their responses are included fairly and in context.

Corrections & Updates

  • If we publish an error, we correct it promptly and visibly.

  • Corrections appear at the top or bottom of the piece, labeled Correction: with what changed and when.

  • Send requests to corrections@karenhartleynagle.com with a link, the issue, and supporting documentation.

Attribution & Citations

  • In-text hyperlinks to primary sources.

  • A Sources list at the end of Reports/Analyses.

  • Each page includes a How to Cite This Work box:

    Karen Hartley-Nagle. “{Title}.” The Truthline Network, karenhartleynagle.com. Published {Month Day, Year}. URL.

Editorial Independence

  • Coverage decisions are made by the Editor-in-Chief. Donors, sponsors, or partners do not review or approve content.

  • Sponsored segments, if any, are clearly labeled “Supported by” and are separate from editorial.

Conflicts of Interest

  • Staff disclose financial, familial, or organizational ties relevant to coverage.

  • Where a reasonable reader could question independence, we disclose and/or recuse.

Funding & Sponsorship Disclosure

  • Reader support and sponsorships may help fund production, events, or reporting.

  • Contributions do not purchase coverage and do not influence editorial decisions.

  • Political campaign contributions are not accepted for editorial work. (Site donation language and fiscal disclaimers are shown on the Donate page.)

Audio/Video Standards

  • Interviews may be edited for length and clarity without altering meaning.

  • Composite or reenacted audio/video is labeled.

  • We obtain consent for on-camera interviews and respect off-the-record agreements.

Use of AI & Automation

  • We may use transcription and research tools; no story is published without human editorial review.

  • We do not generate synthetic quotes or images of real people. Any AI-assisted imagery or analysis would be labeled.

Privacy & Source Protection

  • The Tipline is for newsworthy information. Do not send SSNs, full medical records, or sensitive personal data unless requested by an editor.

  • We minimize publication of personally identifiable information unless essential to the public interest.

Accessibility

  • Alt text on images; captions/transcripts for Radio/Live; readable color contrast and font sizes.

Archiving

  • Substantive updates are timestamped in an Update note. Previous versions are retained internally.
