Why Your Vote on May 13th Matters—Even If You Don’t Have Kids

If you don’t have children in our schools, you might be wondering why the Brandywine School Board election on May 13th should matter to you.

Let me tell you exactly why it does.

Strong Schools Protect Your Property Value

Whether you’re a homeowner, a landlord, or thinking about buying your first place—school quality is tied directly to home values. A study from the National Bureau of Economic Research found that for every $1 invested in a public school district, surrounding home values rise by $20. In Brandywine, strong schools are one of the reasons our neighborhoods have remained attractive and stable even through tough housing markets.

Protecting that value matters—for you and your neighbors.

Public Schools Are a Public Good

Even if you don’t have kids, you still pay into our school system—and for good reason. Schools do more than educate children. They provide jobs, offer community events, serve meals to families in need, and act as safety nets for struggling youth. When our schools succeed, our communities become safer, stronger, and more united.

Good Schools Lower Crime and Raise Economic Opportunity

There is a proven connection between strong schools and lower crime rates. Investing in education means investing in prevention, economic mobility, and long-term stability. It means fewer emergency calls, fewer incarcerations, and more productive, thriving adults who give back. That impacts everyone.

Tomorrow’s Workforce Starts Here

The students in our classrooms today will become the nurses in your doctor’s office, the mechanics fixing your car, the business owners in your shopping center, and the professionals running the public services you rely on. You may not have children—but you will depend on the generation we’re educating right now.

This Election Is About Leadership That Works for Everyone

As a former County Council President, I’ve managed billions in public funds, held the line on taxes, and worked across differences to get results. Now, I’m bringing that same experience and fiscal responsibility to the Brandywine School Board. I believe in transparency, efficiency, and making sure every dollar delivers real value for students and taxpayers alike.

So even if you don’t have a child in school—this election still affects your wallet, your neighborhood, and your future.

Please join me in making a difference for all of Brandywine.
