Truth Matters
The truth was never lost. It was buried—on purpose. This is where it rises.

Truth Matters
For eight years, Karen Hartley-Nagle led New Castle County Council through crisis, obstruction, and extraordinary personal challenges. Some tried to erase her voice from the record—but truth has a long memory. And it’s time to speak plainly.
This isn’t about grievance. It’s about what happens when someone dares to lead with independence—and what powerful people will do to stop it.
In 2008, Karen Hartley-Nagle overwhelmingly won the Democratic Primary for United States Congress. In 2016, she won the Democratic Primary for New Castle County Council President with a mandate that made the establishment uneasy. She hadn’t come up through their system. She wasn’t beholden. She voted her conscience. She questioned the status quo. And when something wasn’t right for her constituents, she stood alone if she had to.
That’s when they moved to silence her. They rewrote the Council rules. Stripped powers. Spread falsehoods. Behind the scenes, they openly discussed ways to push her out—before she could rise any further. This wasn’t about her record. It was about her potential.
But Karen didn’t back down. She led through it all.
During her first year, she quietly recovered from a mild stroke—while running meetings and moving legislation. In 2019, driving home after a Council meeting, a drunk driver plowed into her car at high speed. Still, she showed up—despite chronic pain and injuries through the height of COVID. For two years, she spent her nights caring for an elderly mother battling Alzheimer's, and her days fighting for the public good. She did this with grace, with discipline—and without public complaint.
Even as she was targeted, mocked, and isolated inside the Council Chambers, her support in the community only grew. People saw the work. They felt the difference. In 2020, she overwhelmingly won the Council President seat again, beating another Democratic party insider and long-term elected official, after every possible negative tactic and smear had been thrown at her during the prior four years. And now, the full story is here—not just to defend a record, but to defend the truth itself.
This is not about payback. It’s about making the public record whole. Because leadership without accountability isn’t leadership—it’s theater. And we’re done pretending.
